No assist for Gordon for second Schar goal. (Aston Villa v Newcastle 30th January). It took a significant deflection, hit the crossbar and rebounded off the keeper, before landing at the feet of Schar, who taps it in. So its not a clean pass, nor is it last pass the the goalscorer. Nor is it available for our rebounds of the woodwork rule, as it deflected first.
No assist for Luke Shaw for the Hoijland goal (Wolves v Man Utd 1st February 2024) The assist panel met for this and it was a unanimous decision that no assist should be awarded, predominately for the following reasons. Shaws cross initially is deflected off the Wolves defender, this deflection sends the ball off in a different direction and through the goalkeeper’s legs. The ball subsequently hits the keepers top right thigh and is deflected again (at a different angle) onto the toe of Hoijland. Additionally, without the original defender deflection is was clear enough for us the keeper would have saved the cross. So on this occasion no assist was awarded.
