A Last Dance Before the Break: Your Gameweek 5 Preview

Gameweek 5 is the last set of fixtures before the international break kicks in, so there’s an extra incentive for teams to finish this run on a high before the break. It gets going tonight with Brentford hosting Chelsea in a fixture that looks genuinely tight — Alonso’s Chelsea have shown real signs of life going forward this season, but Brentford have been no pushovers at home either. Saturday brings a big slate: Tottenham host Aston Villa, a relegation-six-pointer feel to it given both sides are still searching for their first win of the season, Brighton welcome league leaders Arsenal to the Amex, Everton take on Ipswich as slight favourites, and Newcastle host Hull looking to arrest a run of one win in four. Forest round out Saturday hosting a Coventry side still searching for their first points of the season after four straight defeats.

Bournemouth host Liverpool, who’ll be desperate for a first win in three after that goalless draw with Fulham, while Leeds take on Crystal Palace off the back of their thumping of Newcastle. The headline fixture, though, is Manchester City hosting Sunderland — City go in as huge favourites and sit level at the top with Arsenal after four straight wins, though Maresca will have to do without Phil Foden, who’s now serving his three-match ban after that red card in the derby. Fulham vs Manchester United closes out the round, with Carrick’s side still searching for consistency after a mixed start to the season.

We love you all dearly, but we cannot keep reiterating this via email one manager at a time. Save yourselves! Save us!
