GW1 was nuts! Will GW2 follow suit?
Friday — Crystal Palace vs Man City: Palace go in patched up, with Ismaïla Sarr sidelined by a groin issue and Chadi Riad facing a lengthy spell out after being stretchered off in GW 1 — tough timing against the champions. City have their own gaps. Jeremy Doku out and possibly Matheus Nunes still not fully fit after pulling out of the Community Shield squad. Elliot Anderson is fine and Rayan Cherki’s available after his bright cameo last time.
Saturday kicks off with Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest. Iraola’s without Federico Chiesa and has been coy on who starts up front. While Forest have their own selection headaches with Ryan Yates, Nicolo Savona and now Morgan Gibbs-White all missing through injury — a tricky one for Glasner just two games into his reign. New signing Delap could partner Jesus in attack. Bournemouth vs Everton should be straightforward for the Cherries fitness-wise. Marco Rose has no fresh concerns beyond his existing medium-term absentees, and he was adamant star man Adam Scott isn’t going anywhere despite transfer interest. Coventry vs Hull is nearly a full-strength affair for the hosts, with only Wright missing for Lampard. Hull carry a bit more fitness baggage into a game they’ll fancy after their shock win over United. Spurs vs Newcastle rounds out the day — both sides will want a reaction after rough GW1s. Worth watching team sheets closely given the disruption both camps have had.
Sunday brings Chelsea vs Brighton, Chelsea look to build on Alonso’s perfect start, as do Brighton after demolishing a poor Villa. Leeds vs Brentford and Sunderland vs Fulham both look like tight, competitive tussles between mid-table sides with no major fitness dramas reported. Man United vs Ipswich is the pick of the day for a reaction story — Carrick will be desperate to bounce back after Hull, Dorgu’s disaster in week one.
Monday closes with Aston Villa vs Arsenal. Arteta’s boosted by new signing Ezri Konsa being fit and ready. Bruno Guimarães also possibly in contention — Arsenal just keep adding depth to an already ominous-looking squad.
