Assist 2: After covening the MA assist panel for the first Salah goal, it has been decided to award Szoboszlai the assist. The specific rule which relates to the award is detail in the graphic below.
After reviewing the clearance by the Spurs defender frame by frame, we have concluded that the clearance from the defender after the Szoboszlai ‘floor shot’ was a goal line clearance. His left leg is on the goal line and as per the rule above is closer to the goal line than the keeper, therefore, a further assist has been awarded.
The rule has been in place for many seasons, but will be added to the review list at the end of the season.
If there are any further assists this season that are similar (and we hope that there aren’t 😉 ), we will review in accordance with the above rule.
