On Wedneday the Premier League changed their view over a goal in the Brentford v Ipswich game, which was held at the weekend. Brentford successfully appealed that the own goal originally awarded, should be attributed to Wissa as a goal.

Why does this matter for FL?
Our scoring platform is entirely governed by OPTA and its data, therefore if OPTA change anything in our data API, it will reflect that detail in our system.
After the successful appeal, OPTA added the Wissa goal and removed the OG.

Why is this slightly more complicated for Fantasy League?

Using our rules Wissa was awarded a manual assist, which means it was reviewed by our team and an assist was added manually, based on our rule guidelines for an OG. (The original PL decision)
As a result of the OPTA feed updating to reflect the goal, Wissa’s score reflected 8 points, which was incorrect. (2 goals and 1 assist)
It is now 6, which correctly accounts for his 2 goals, minus the assist.

What else has changed?
As the OG has been removed, the new classification awards Damsgaard an assist. This is now also reflected in our system.

Does anything else change?
These points changes will ONLY be reflected in your overall team totals. The GW ended on Monday night, as the appeal was yesterday, this falls outside of of GW window, so we will not be updating Head to Head Fixtures, or any Custom Cup that was in play.

Rules clarification
Finally, for the more observant, you may notice that this goes a little against our rules, outlined in the Game Guide.
“Fantasy league will only amend goals that are overturned by the Premier League in the same GW”

In this specific example, we believe reflecting the Wissa goal, as the PL do is the correct decision.
However, as the data has been automatically updated after the appeal, we are not left with a choice. For the remainder of the season, if a similar scenario occurs we will follow the same guidelines and at the end of the season the rule will be updated.
In the interim we will add a small addendum covering this season 2024/25.
