The world has stopped.
And so instead of looking forward, everyone is looking back.
And that includes us.
Except we’ve gone RIGHT back, to our inaugural Fantasy League 1991/92 season.
What a year it was. No internet, no Premier League, and Hans Segers.
It’s made us all nostalgic, and so we thought we’d share the Fantasy League Team of the Year from that season:

A reminder that our usual caveats apply, those being:
- We keep a two players per team quota in place
- We keep formation considerations too – most of the higher-scoring players are strikers, but that wouldn’t be a team!
- Where there are ties for points and neither of the above apply, we make a subjective judgement
There was only one honourable mention to make, as Denis Irwin missed out by virtue of there already being two Manchester United players in the side (Brian ‘Choccy’ McClair and Steve Bruce, who both topped their positional categories).
Even in the pre-PL era, there was some outstanding quality on display.
And Ian Wright’s 111-point total – with 29 goals and 12 assists – is even now still in the top eight scores by a striker ever recorded in Fantasy League.
Bruce’s 64-point tally has also stood the test of time, sitting in the all-time top ten. It’s no surprise given the very handy five goals and three assists he registered during the campaign.
But it’s not the numbers that we took away.
It’s of Burrows crunching into opposing wingers, Lukic’s magic-eye jersey, and the mercurial Merse in midfield.
The days might be gone, but the memories remain.
