The winter fixture pile-up is starting to wreak its usual havoc on Fantasy League managers far and wide.

Rotation is rife, and injuries are piling up – just the cocktail of uncertainty you don’t want ahead of potentially season-defining gameweeks.

Fortunately – or unfortunately – depending on how you see it, the Premier League takes a back seat this week, to return next weekend.

But looking back over the last two gameweeks, what have they told us about where the value is?

Let’s start with Aston Villa. But not Jack Grealish. Instead, Anwar El-Ghazi.

The Dutch winger has as many Fantasy League assists this season as his skipper – five – and also has four goals to boot. In four less games.

And in the last two gameweeks, he has manfully led the line, occupying the not inconsiderable backlines of Brighton and Watford by himself at times.

And he played a full part in his side picking up four points from those games.

Don’t put it past the talented 24-year-old to register more goal involvements before the season is out.

The last two gameweeks represented a much-needed resurgence for Burnley too.

We flagged up Chris Wood as being a healthy source of points recently – he has 32 overall, from 10 goals and an assist – but we think Jay Rodriguez could come good as the rest of the campaign unfurls.

Both him and Wood scored in the Clarets’ sensational win over Manchester United last Wednesday, and with Ashley Barnes out for the next month, Wood and Rodriguez (Woodriguez?) could continue their burgeoning partnership.

Next, here’s a stat for you. Newcastle have the lowest individual top scorer in terms of points – 15. That man? Jonjo Shelvey, with five goals.

It’s a pretty damning indictment of their season at both ends, but somehow – somehow – Steve Bruce continues to get his troops picking up Premier League points.

Their remarkable late show against Everton nudged them over the 30-point mark, and they have a significant five-point cushion over Brighton below them.

They have a disastrous injury crisis at the moment – with 13 players currently out or in various states of recovery – and that is potentially turning Fantasy League away from their players.

However, the Toon have Norwich, Crystal Palace and Burnley as three of their next four games, and we therefore think they could scrape a few clean sheets – particularly as skipper Jamaal Lascelles is back from his own injury.

A sign of his influence is his four clean sheets in just 13 appearances this term, and if he can stay injury-free between now and May, he could tot up more shut-outs.

Finally, the last word to Bournemouth. A desperate defeat away at Norwich in gameweek 23 heaped further pressure on Eddie Howe, but his men responded by taking all three points in the following gameweek against Brighton.

And crucially, Callum Wilson was in the goals. The England frontman has been vital to their cause in recent times, and the Cherries will need his goals to steer them away from the drop zone.
