We said in our preview for gameweek 22 that Bournemouth badly needed to start getting results during their ‘easy’ run…but rather than give any hope of a revival, their 3-0 defeat by Watford was perhaps one of their worst displays of the season.
Just one shot on target all game – and perhaps more tellingly only three fouls – point to a toothless side in all areas of the pitch.
Eddie Howe has achieved miracles at the Vitality Stadium during his time, and he badly needs to perform another one now.
If the Cherries were bad, Watford under Nigel Pearson have been so good.
And while some of that is of down to the new manager’s efforts, he can also thank his lucky stars that Troy Deeney has returned to fitness since his arrival at the club.
Deeney has only made 10 Fantasy League appearances this campaign, yet has four goals. If he can keep up that ratio, he could be an attractive proposition for your teams.
It was also heavy scorelines at Stamford Bridge, Old Trafford and Villa Park.
And records were broken too, with the imperious Sergio Aguero becoming the highest-scoring overseas player in Premier League history.
With City having essentially not much to lose in the remainder of the season, watch his numbers soar further.
And while we’re on star forwards, Marcus Rashford stormed into second place in the Fantasy League individual charts, and with 52 points is now only nine behind Jamie Vardy, who has stalled just of late.
With Harry Kane out injured – and Jose Mourinho mischievously implying he could miss the Euros – could Rashford lead the line for England in the summer? Or will Vardy come out of retirement if given the chance to replace Kane?
Lastly, a mention for Fantasy League hero George Baldock. Yet another clean sheet at the weekend – his eighth of the season – and he now boasts a points tally of 31, comprising two goals and four assists.
It’s frankly ludicrous the Blades sit where they do after 22 games, but long may the thrifty gains gotten from their players continue.
