As a Fantasy Leaguer, you probably fall into one of three categories.
Either you go ‘long’, you go ‘short’, or you fall somewhere in between.
The longest of going long is taking the same approach/team for the entire season and waiting for it to come good. You are basically Arsene.
The shortest of going short is changing your team every single week having forensically eyed up the form of players and fixtures ahead. You are basically Jose.
And in between you are…Josene (doing the portmanteau the other way round would be uncouth…..yep….you’ve got it).
Watching the Premier League action unfold in gameweek 14 got us thinking of which players benefit from these approaches.
At Old Trafford, Jack Grealish looked like an archetypal ‘go long’-er.
He came up to the Premier League a star in the making, and as he gains experience of the top flight every week, his performances – and therefore points accrued – will only stand to increase.
Watching him float an absolute gem over David de Gea on Sunday was to imagine a thousand fist pumps signifying eventual potential being realised.
Another young ‘long’ gun is Trent Alexander-Arnold. Unlike Grealish, who gets the nod on the basis of his potential, the Liverpool right-back gets it thanks to his ridiculous consistency.
With two more assists against a dogged Brighton on the weekend, that’s now five this season, and just eight more to beat his tally from 2018/19. He even knows himself how valuable he is…check his Twitter from Saturday evening…
Could he somehow beat his teammate Andy Robertson’s record points haul of 82 from last season?
On the other ‘short’ side, Dele Alli and Danny Ings popped out to us.
Alli – as this season has proved more than ever – tends to blow hot and cold. And having been freezing for a fair while in the PL, he has exploded into red-hot life. Two more goals on the weekend showed that.
And managers will want to take advantage and transfer him in while the going is good.
Ings too, is on a streak and a half. That’s seven goals now this season, putting him on a par with Harry Kane and Teemu Pukki, and above Mo Salah.
Much to chew over then as always at the end of another gameweek.
But however you play the game, the beauty is there is no right or wrong way.
Just your way!
